About The Long Island Pool & Spa Association
Chartered in 1978, LIPSA is a robust and vibrant chapter of NESPA/PHTA covering Nassau and Suffolk Counties. With over 200 member companies, we are a strong voice with local and regional government and pro-active where zoning, licensing and other legislative issues affect our ability to do business on Long Island.
Likewise, we are a consistent advocate for the highest levels of professionalism within our membership. We worked with officials of both Counties to raise the standard required for pool companies to obtain a Home Improvement license, and we offer frequent classes for industry certification and general education to member and non-members.
We consistently urge member pool companies to spread the word to Long Island’s homeowners reminding them of the benefits of choosing a licensed and insured LIPSA member contractor. Because being licensed on Long Island requires the business to hold PHTA certification, and membership in LIPSA requires members to operate under a strict code of ethics, the consumer should weigh options carefully when choosing a construction or service company.
In addition to keeping our members educated and informed, in the 1990’s we started a drowning prevention initiative called KidSwim Long Island. The program initially began with LIPSA members doing in-person presentations at kindergartens through Long Island. KidSwim has recently moved on to partner with PHTA’s “Step Into Swim” and the Every Child A Swimmer not-for-profit programs, which give free swimming lessons to children whose families would otherwise not afford them.
Other community service projects include building “Wish” pools for families with handicapped children, participating in annual Polar Plunge fundraisers for the Empire State Special Olympics Swim Team, support for the Wounded Warriors project and more.
