The Challenges of COVID-19

NESPA members have had the distinction of working and living in the part of the country that has been hardest hit by the coronavirus, which has presented us with unique challenges both professionally and personally.  Not only have we been front and center during this health crisis, but also we have had to deal with unprecedented work restrictions as the four states in our region have worked to mitigate the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

This month has been a turning point around the region as work restrictions are being lifted and the economic reopening begins.  In general, all areas of our industry can operate throughout the region, but businesses must comply with new safety restrictions.  I know that many of us work in a variety of locations, so I encourage you to take the time to familiarize yourself with all the new requirements in every location.   NESPA has been tracking the status of our industry as well as all the safety guidelines so that you can find the information you need all in one place. Right now, we are all looking for something positive to help us get through this difficult time.  What has become clear to me is that our association members have really shown their heart, their ingenuity, and their entrepreneurial spirit.  We have seen companies that never offered online ordering for products jump-start new web-based stores and create new ways to connect with potential customers.

When we have been forced to reduce onsite construction staff, we’ve found innovative and safe ways to keep projects moving forward.  All of us have upped our communications game with both customers and employees, which has created deeper connections and more loyalty that will benefit us all in the long run.

Throughout the COVID-19 crisis, NESPA has been right there with us as we navigated the spring. Pulling together, our industry has a seat at the table as state and local governments have debated their economic policies.  I could not be more proud of the work that we’ve done or more grateful for the community we’ve created over the last few months.

During the 2020 pool and spa season, please Stay Safe. Work Smart. Stay Connected.
